Details

Active steam insulation. Used as breathable steam insulation for walls and roofs. Especially recommended for timber frame houses or construction sites. The material is covered with inscriptions on the inside of the room, creating 10-15 cm overlaps. Overlaps are glued with Tyvek tape or Gerband Inside Green Tape (585). Country of origin: Czech Republic. Steam insulation films or vapor barriers are the simplest and most commonly used construction films.

They do not allow water vapor to pass through in either direction (outside - inside or vice versa) and are considered "non-breathable" films. However, this insulation provides protection against moisture, protecting both the insulation material itself and the building structure. Steam insulation is used for roof, wall, and floor insulation.

The range of these films on the market is very wide, and the quality of the products varies, so several conditions must be observed when choosing a steam insulation film. The external steam insulation film looks like a regular film, but this is a deceptive impression. According to European Union (EU) and Latvian building regulations, the film must be at least 0.2 mm or 200 microns thick. It must be made of primary polyethylene (polypropylene) rather than with secondary polyethylene additives, as is often the case with many of the offered steam insulation films. This can be noticed "by eye" - if the film has secondary polyethylene additives, sand grains, dirt, etc. will be visible, which will reduce the quality of the film during operation.

A high-quality steam insulation film must be resistant to ultraviolet radiation. During the production process, a special chemical additive is added to the mass from which the film is made, which stabilizes the polyethylene molecules and extends the lifespan of the film. High-quality steam insulation films are colorless or have a light, clear color (e.g., blue) rather than pigmented. The film material must be supplemented with a UV stabilizer.
