Details

The kraft paper is covered with aluminum foil. The material is used as vapor insulation with a heat reflective effect for walls and roofs, especially recommended for saunas. The material is covered with an aluminum layer on the inside of the room, creating 10-15 cm overlaps. The overlaps are sealed with Alu tape. Country of origin: EU. Vapor barrier films are the simplest and most commonly used construction films. They do not allow water vapor to pass through in either direction (outside - inside or vice versa) and are considered "non-breathable" films.

However, this insulation provides protection against moisture, protecting both the thermal insulation material and the building structure. Vapor insulation is used for roof, wall, and floor insulation.

The range of these films on the market is very wide, and the quality of the products varies, so when choosing a vapor barrier film, several conditions must be considered. The external vapor barrier film looks like a regular film, but it is a deceptive impression. According to European Union (EU) and Latvian building regulations, the film must be at least 0.2 mm or 200 microns thick. It must be made of primary polyethylene (polypropylene) rather than with secondary polyethylene additives, as is often the case with many of the offered vapor barrier films. This can be noticed "by eye" - if the film has secondary polyethylene additives, sand grains, impurities, etc. will be visible, which will reduce the quality of the film during operation.

A high-quality vapor barrier film must be resistant to ultraviolet radiation. During the production process, a special chemical additive is added to the mass from which the film is made, which stabilizes the polyethylene molecules and extends the lifespan of the film. High-quality vapor barrier films are colorless or have a light, clear color (e.g., blue) rather than pigmented. The film material must be supplemented with a UV stabilizer.
