The technology of producing thermally modified wood is based on heating the wood to 160-220°C, which changes the physical and chemical properties of the wood. The treatment takes place in special drying chambers, where each type and tonnage of wood requires its own heating temperature. Thermally modified wood can be made from both softwoods (pine, spruce) and hardwoods (ash, black alder, magnolia, and others). The possibilities for using thermally modified wood are very wide - for both external cladding and interior design. Thermally modified wood is most commonly used for external and internal finishes, terraces, floors, saunas, garden houses, and less commonly for balcony and veranda structures, garden furniture, window frames, and doors.

TERRACE AND EXTERNAL FINISHING OPTIONS

If you want to preserve the brown color of thermally modified wood, the surface needs to be treated with a wood-specific protective agent (wood oil, varnish, paint, etc.). Linseed oil, natural varnishes, and paints are not recommended as they promote the growth of microorganisms. The frequency of treatment mainly depends on the weather conditions, UV radiation, and wear. In addition, thermally modified wood that has been varnished or painted lasts 2-3 times longer than varnishing or painting on thermally untreated wood. Thermally modified wood can be treated before or after installation work. If thermally modified wood is not treated, it acquires a uniform silvery gray color, which is caused by UV radiation.

Advantages of thermally modified wood:

- environmentally friendly material - the production technology is based on high temperatures and steam treatment of sawn timber, thus avoiding chemical treatment;

- aesthetic high-quality appearance and color stability - wood acquires a uniform color ranging from light brown to chestnut brown, color stability is maintained provided that the wood is treated with oil;

- dimensional stability - thermal treatment changes the structure of wood cells, removing moisture from it, therefore the dimensions do not change due to fluctuations in external temperature and humidity;

- biological durability of wood - thermally modified wood is resistant to mold, the growth of various microorganisms, and other biological damage;

- water resistance - as a result of thermal treatment, the moisture content of the wood decreases and the surface becomes dense, significantly affecting the absorption of moisture from the external environment;

- low thermal conductivity - 20-25% lower than untreated wood, making thermally modified wood ideal for buildings and rooms with large temperature and humidity differences;

- no resins - resins are removed during the thermal treatment process, making thermally modified wood useful for interior finishes in saunas and steam rooms;

- quick and easy installation - no screws are needed, as special fasteners designed for thermally modified wood are used, which do not leave visible fastening points.
