Details

Ruukki specially developed and patented roof safety ladder system Safegrip is an unprecedented innovation in its field, thus setting a new standard for improving work safety. The mechanically created perforation in the ladder significantly increases grip with the sole of the shoe in dry conditions and provides more than 100% better grip in wet conditions compared to ladders with smooth rungs. Safegrip reduces the risk of slipping and avoiding dangerous situations. Clean chimneys, perform roof maintenance or other work on the roof safely in any weather, both in winter and summer!

Roof ladders, designed for profiled sheets up to 70 mm high, connect wall ladders and/or roof stairs in such a way as to create a unified safety path on the roof. It is necessary to ensure safe movement on the roof from the eaves to the ridge, chimney, roof windows, and other places that require periodic maintenance. The width of Ruukki ladder steps is 400 mm, pipe diameter - 25 mm.

INSTALLATION
Roof ladders must be securely attached to the load-bearing structures of the roof at least at the top and bottom (EN 12951, 5.3.1.p.). Due to snow loads, it is recommended to use more fastening elements. If the profiled sheets are not load-bearing sheets or if it is not known whether the roof structure is assembled as a load-bearing structure, attach the supports with screws to the rafter-beam structure. It is also recommended to attach the ladder to the rafter-beam structure if the structure is assembled as a load-bearing structure. Before attaching the supports, make sure that they are in the correct position above the beams, i.e., that the screw attachment points are suitable for fastening (Fig. 3). The minimum dimensions of the wooden beams to meet the requirements of Class 2, i.e., to be able to attach safety ropes to the ladder, are 32x100 mm.

  • Mount the support brackets on the ladder frame no more than 1400 mm apart (Fig. 1).
  • Place EPDM rubber gaskets on the brackets and attach the bracket to the beams of the ladder's top and bottom with 7x50 mm hexagonal screws.
  • Check that the other supports are in the correct position above the beams, i.e., that the attachment points are along the center of the beam (Fig. 3).
  • Screw the supports to the ladder frame with M8x30 hexagonal bolts.
  • If the ladder is planned to be extended, do so in the upper part of the ladder (Fig. 4), using M8x40 hexagonal bolts and M8 hexagonal screws (Fig. 4).

USAGE
The ladder can be used if the roof slope is equal to or greater than 1:8 (7o). If the height of the building exceeds 9 meters, a structure safety rope must be installed. Standard EN 12951 provides for two types of ladder installation: Class 1 and Class 2. A person using fall protection equipment is allowed to attach only to roof stairs that meet the requirements of Class 2. Ruukki roof ladders meet the requirements of standard EN 12951 and have passed the static and dynamic tests specified for Class 2. Safety ropes can be attached to ladders that are installed according to the requirements of Class 2. If a safety rope is used, the following requirements must be observed.

  • Only one person whose total weight, including equipment, does not exceed 150 kg, is allowed to attach to the ladder with a safety rope.
  • Do not attach the safety rope to the lowest fastening elements attached to the roof structure or to the ladder's own fastening elements.
  • The safety rope can only be used in the direction of the sloping roof eaves, where the roof ladder is installed.

MAINTENANCE
Ruukki products are safe and durable. Ruukki guarantees the safety and durability of its products by performing continuous quality control and improving its goods. However, these guarantees are valid only if the products are installed following the manufacturer's instructions. To ensure reliable use and safety of the products, the owner must perform annual inspection and maintenance, as well as ensure that the specified snow load values are not exceeded.

Annual maintenance checklist for safety elements:

  • Check the tightness of the connection points and attached parts. Check auxiliary parts (fastening elements).
  • Ensure that excess snow is cleared, thus preventing loads on structures and fastening points (if necessary, clear snow multiple times in winter).
  • Clean the ladder from snow and ice.
  • Check the color and zinc coating of the products; if necessary, correct defects.
  • Replace or repair damaged parts or parts with defects as soon as possible.
