Tikkurila Empire Paint for Furniture Semi-Matt

Thixotropic (gelatinous) alkyd paint.

RECOMMENDED USES

Free-standing interior furniture.

PRODUCT FEATURES

For interior use on wood, chipboard, wood fiberboard and hardwood surfaces according to instructions. Empire levels well and is particularly suited for brush application.

• Base paints: A BASE, C BASE
• Colour Shades: Color cards: Feel the Color 2020, Feel the Color. Can be tinted in Tikkurila colors. Ready-made shade Black.
• Gloss: Semi-matt.
• Coverage: 10–12 m²/l.
• Application method: Brush or spray.
• Drying time: Dust dry after approx. 3 hours. Recoatable after approx. 24 hours.
• Density (kg/l): 1.2 kg/l, white, ISO 2811.
• Chemical resistance: Resistant to turpentine, white spirit and denatured alcohol. Not resistant to e.g.
  thinner. Resistant to vegetable and animal fats and lubricating oils and greases.
• Wash resistance: Good with ordinary detergents, SFS 3755.
• Volume solids (%): 50
• Storage: Unaffected by cold storage or transportation. Badly closed or short cans endure
  badly long-time storage

Application conditions

The surface to be painted must be dry, the ambient temperature at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of air below 80%.

Surface preparation

Unpainted surfaces:
Remove all dirt, dust and grease. Prime with Otex primer.

Previously painted surfaces:
Wash with Maalipesu detergent, rinse carefully with water and let dry well. Remove any loose paint with a scraper and sand the entire surface. Remove the sanding dust. Fill holes and cracks with Presto Kalustekitti or Lakkakitti. Prime with Otex primer, if necessary.

Painting

Empire does not usually need to be stirred before use. If, however, you need to stir Empire (e.g. when thinning), let the paint stand until it is gelatinous before application by brush. For brush application, thin with White Spirit 1050 and for spray application, thin with Ruiskuohenne 1032. Apply 1–2 coats by brush or spray.

Cleaning of tools

Clean tools with White Spirit 1050 or Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner). Clean tools with White Spirit 1050 or Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner).

Maintenance instructions

If needed, after approx. 1 month from painting, at the earliest: Clean the surface with a neutral (pH 6–8) dish washing solution and a soft brush, sponge or cleaning cloth. Clean very dirty surfaces with a mild alkaline (pH 8–10) washing solution and a cleaning cloth or sponge. Rinse the surface carefully. The product achieves its final hardness and durability after one month under normal conditions, therefore the surfaces must be handled with care during a couple of weeks. If the surfaces need to be cleaned soon after finishing, clean them lightly with a soft brush or damp cleaning cloth.
