Doors, skirting boards, window frames, radiators, cabinets, furniture etc.

PRODUCT FEATURES

For interior painting of wooden, wood fiberboard, chipboard and metal surfaces. Suitable for touch-up and first application painting and repainting of surfaces previously coated with an alkyd or acid-curing paint. Not suitable for repainting of surfaces painted with nitrocellulose lacquer.

• Base paints: A BASE, C BASE
• Colour Shades: Color cards: Feel the color, Symphony color system. Can be tinted in Tikkurila colors. Additionally readymade shades: Yellow, black, red, blue, white and green.
• Gloss: Semi-matt.
• Coverage: 8–10 m²/l.
• Application method: Synthetic brush, roller Spray: – Conventionalspraying: pressure 3–4 bar, nozzle 1,4–1,8 mm, thinning 20–40% by volume – Airless spraying: nozzle pressure 140–160 bar, nozzle 0.009"–0.013", thinning 0–5% by volume – Air assisted airless spraying: nozzle pressure 80–120 bar, atomizing air pressure 1–2 bar, nozzle 0.009"–0.011", thinning 0–5% by volume
• Drying time (23°C and 50% relative air humidity): Dust-dry after 1 hour. Recoatable after 16 hours. Usable hardness is reached after 2–3 days.
• Density (kg/l): 1.2 kg/l in white, ISO 2811
• Chemical resistance: Resistant to cleaning chemicals and mild solvents, such as white spirit. Any colored
  stains from coffee, tea, etc. must be wiped off immediately.
• Wash resistance: Withstands over 5,000 scrub cycles, SFS 3755
• Light resistance: Does not turn yellow.
• Volume solids (%): 40
• Storage: Protect from frost.

Application conditions

The surface to be painted must be dry, the ambient temperature at least +8 °C and the relative humidity of air below 80%. A relatively low temperature (approx. +15 °C) and high humidity (50–70% RH) prolong the open time of the paint, making application easier.

Surface preparation

Unpainted surfaces:
Carefully remove any dirt and dust from new surfaces for ensuring the best possible adhesion. Prime new wood and wood fiberboard surfaces with Helmi Pohjamaali primer.
For absorbent porous surfaces, priming using a primer thinned 5–10% followed by intermediate sanding is recommended. Then, paint the surface with an unthinned primer. Prime surfaces which needs special adhesion with Otex Akva. Prime knotty and yellowed wood with Multistop Primer.

Previously painted surfaces:
Wash previously painted surfaces with Maalipesu detergent and rinse carefully with water. Remove loose paint with a scraper. Sand the hard, glossy and factory-painted surfaces non-glossy. Remove the sanding dust. Fill holes and cracks with Presto Kalustekitti or Pikasilote filler and sand the filled spots. Prime with Helmi Pohjamaali or Otex Akva adhesion primer.

Painting

First application:
Before use, stir the paint thoroughly down to the bottom and thin with water, if necessary. Apply 1–2 coats by brush, roller, paint pad or spray. On large surfaces, it is recommended to first apply the paint with a roller and then level the coat with a brush. We recommend the use of synthetic brushes with multi branched bristles.

NOTE!

If the undercoat is an alkyd primer, the final adhesion with the primer is reached after two weeks of applying the primer. During this time, avoid sticking masking tape, for example, on the surface.

Cleaning of tools

Remove excess paint/ lacquer from tools and clean with water. Clean tools with water. Tikkurila Pensselipesu Tool Cleaner is recommended to remove slightly hardened paint. Remove excess paint from tools. Clean tools with water. Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner) is recommended to be used to remove a bit hardened paint.

Maintenance instructions

If needed, after approx. 1 month from painting, at the earliest: The surfaces are cleaned with a soft brush, sponge or cleaning cloth and neutral (pH 6-8) dish washing solution. Clean very dirty surfaces with weakly alkaline (pH 8-10) washing detergent and e.g. cleaning cloth or sponge. Rinse the surface carefully.

The product achieves its final hardness and durability after one month under normal conditions, therefore the surfaces must be handled with care during a couple of weeks. If the surfaces need to be cleaned soon after finishing, clean them lightly with a soft brush or damp cleaning cloth.
