Tikkurila Valtti Plus Color for Beige Wood Surfaces, Semi-Transparent, Tintable, ECV

Waterborne semi-transparent, tintable wood finish for use on exterior wood.

Product Features

Natural oil-based waterborne semi-transparent wood finish for use on exterior wood.
The binder of the product is a vegetable oil alkyd. Available in many attractive colours.
Valtti Akvacolor penetrates and enhances the natural beauty of wood whilst retarding the
adverse effects of moisture and weathering.

Recommended Uses

Timber cladding, weatherboarding, facias, fencing. Unpainted or previously with wood
stains treated wooden structures. Suitable for exterior log surfaces, smooth and sawn wood
surfaces, impregnated and thermally modified wood.

Application Conditions

All surfaces to be painted must be dry, the moisture content of the wood below 20%, the temperature of the air, surface and wood finish at least +5°C , and the relative humidity of the air below 80% during painting and drying. The working properties are at their best at a calm, cloudy dry weather day with temperature +10 - + 20°C.

Preparation

Untreated surfaces:
Clean surfaces from dirt, dust and loose material with steel or scrubbing brush. Wash moldy surfaces with
Tikkurila Homeenpoisto Mould Removal or Tehopesu Super Clean according to instructions. Prime surfaces at the earliest possible stage of construction with Valtti Base or Valtti Akvabase. Protect plants from splashes of Valtti Base or Valtti Akvabase.

Surfaces previously treated with semi-transparent product:
Remove loose material and wood turned grey with a scraper and/or steel brush. Clean the surface and wash with Homeenpoisto Mould Removal or Tehopesu Super Clean, if necessary. Prime bare wood surfaces with Valtti Base or Valtti Akvabase. If a clear possibly gloss film remains on the wood surface, remove it or at least sand carefully.

Make sure that timber cladding, weatherboarding and timber glazing beads, etc. are adequately fastened with non-corrosive fixings. Valtti Akvacolor is not recommended for use with linseed oil putty. Good quality nonsetting glazing compounds which form a protective skin should be used in accordance with manufacturers instructions. Particular attention with regards to preparation should be given to wood such as Oak, Teak, Cedar, Douglas Fir, Mahogany and Idigbo, etc. which contain oil and water soluble tannin which may impair the drying, hardening or adhesion of surface coatings.

Priming

In as early construction stage as possible a priming coat of Valtti Base or Valtti Akvabase should be applied to all exterior wood, which has not been pre-treated or vacuum impregnated with an approved wood preservative. Apply liberally on end grain.

Treatment

Reserve enough tinted Valtti Akvacolor for one uniform surface, mixed in one can, to avoid possible colour
differences. Stir thoroughly before and during use. Apply Valtti Akvacolor evenly and continuosly along the
length of a log or few boards to avoid overlapping. Apply liberally on the end grain.

Apply two coats, on sawn and log surfaces thin coats. Always use a tinted product for the treatment of a new surface.

Check the condition of the treated surface and make maintenance treatment when necessary. The maintenance interval is affected by the location, point of compass and weather conditions.
Check the condition of the timber and the functionality of the log structure before applying the finishing coat.

Cleaning of tools

Clean with water and soap immediately after use. Rinse with water. Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner) is
recommended for removal of hardeded finish.
