For priming of plaster, concrete, filler treated, gypsum, chipboard and wood fibre board surfaces. Recommended especially as a primer for Harmony, Joker, Remontti-Ässä and Lumi interior paints, for new surfaces and for maintenance painting of previously painted surfaces.

Varma Primer is a good choice under wallpapers. In wallpapering please note that the filler substrate must be made with a suitable Presto ready-to-use filler or cement reinforced dry filler, which does not easily dissolve in water. Varma Primer has a good adhesion on galvanized surfaces.

Colour Range: White. Can also be tinted to the colors of Tikkurila Symphony color card marked with A. Only half of the colorant amount shown in the tinting formula to be used. Color accuracy is not perfect.
Application method: Roller or spray. For airless spray application, use a nozzle 0.015" - 0.021" or 0,380 - 0,530 mm, thinning 0-5 % by volume.
Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity: Dust dry in half an hour. Re-coatable after 2-4 hours. Wallpaper can be hung the following day.
Wet scrub resistance: SFS-EN 13300 class II, ISO 11998.
Chemical resistance: Resists cleaning detergents and weak solvents, e.g. White Spirit.
Heat resistance: 85 ºC, ISO 4211-3.
Solids volume: approx. 35 % depending on the colour.
Density: 1.4 kg/l, ISO 2811.
Storage: Protect from frost.

Application conditions

The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5 oC, and the relative humidity of the air below 80%.

Preparation

New surfaces:
Remove dirt and dust. Fill the surfaces with a suitable Presto filler, if needed, and sand the dried surface. Remove sanding dust.
Previously painted surfaces:
Wash down previously painted surfaces with Maalipesu cleaning detergent and rinse carefully with water. Fill cracks and holes with a suitable Presto filler and sand the dried surface. Remove sanding dust.

Painting

Stir Varma Primer well before use and thin with water, if necessary. Apply 1-2 times by roller or spray. Finishing paint can be acrylate paint like Harmony, Lumi Interior Paint, Joker or Remontti-Ässä.

Cleaning of tools

Remove excess paint from tools and clean them with water or Tikkurila Tool Cleaner, that is recommended also for removal of hardened paint.

Maintenance instructions

At the earliest after approx. 1 month from finishing. The surfaces are cleaned with a well squeezed damp sponge or cleaning cloth and neutral (pH 6 – 8) washing detergent. Dilution instructions given by the detergent producer have to be followed by preparing the washing dilution. The surface must be dried after the cleaning.
The product achieves its final hardness and durability after one month under normal conditions, therefore the surfaces must be handled with care during this time. If the surfaces need to be cleaned soon after finishing, clean them lightly with a damp cleaning cloth.
