Tikkurila Vinha wood protection coating for exterior use, semi-matt, translucent, tintable

For new wooden surfaces and surfaces previously treated with Vinha, acrylate paint, oil paint or translucent wood finish. Also suitable for factory primed wood.

Product Features

Suitable for log facades, new wood surfaces, surfaces previously treated with Vinha, exterior wood paints or wood stains, sawn or planed surfaces and pressure-treated wood. Also suitable for factory primed wood surfaces. Not suitable for treating floors.

Application conditions

The surface to be treated must be dry, the ambient temperature at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of air below 80% during treatment and drying.

Surface preparation

Clean the untreated wood surface of any dirt, mold or loose material. Prime the surface at the earliest possible stage of construction with Tikkurila priming oil. Use a wire brush to remove any loose material from a previously treated surface. Wash any
surfaces affected by mold with the Tikkurila Homeenpoisto solution according to instructions. Protect any bare wood surfaces with Tikkurila priming oil. Protect any metal parts prone to rust, such as nail heads, with Rostex Super Akva anti-corrosive primer.

Priming

Prime new bare wood overall at the earliest possible stage of construction and spot prime all bare areas on previously painted wood with Tikkurila priming oil.

Note: Tikkurila priming oil should be applied to all exterior wood which has not been pre-treated or vacuum impregnated with an approved preservative. Apply liberally on end-grain.

Painting

Stir Vinha thoroughly before use. Vinha is usually used as such and can be thinned with water, if necessary. Brush or spray two coats on new surfaces and one or two coats when maintenance painting a surface, depending on the color difference of the
substrate and the condition of the surfaces to be treated. When treating pressure-treated wood with light colors, apply two or three coats. For achieving a uniform surface and avoiding color differences, reserve enough paint mixed in a single container. Treat the end grains of the wood with special care.

Wood contains resin and other staining extracts, particularly around knots, which can cause discoloration or bleeding in the painted surface due to temperature and moisture variations.

Maintenance painting: Vinha can be maintenance painted with Vinha. A single coat with the same color is enough. Ensure the condition of the log surface and the functionality of the log structure before treating the surface.

Maintenance instructions

Handle the painted surface with care as the product reaches its final hardness and durability in about four weeks under normal conditions. If a surface needs cleaning soon after treatment, use a soft brush, a damp cloth or a mop.

After one month from painting, a dirty surface can be cleaned with Talon Huoltopesu (mix 1 part of Talon Huoltopesu with 10 parts of water). Clean stains and very dirty surfaces with a stronger Huoltopesu solution (1:1). After washing, rinse with water and let dry.

Maintenance treatment

Maintenance painting: Vinha can be maintenance painted with Vinha or other acrylate house paints. A single coat with the same color is enough.
